specialized Parent Guidance & support
Parents play a central role in their child’s communication development. For children with speech or language delays, and particularly for nonspeaking children, structured guidance can make a significant difference in everyday communication opportunities.
Research shows that when parents feel confident using evidence-based strategies within daily routines, children often make stronger and more meaningful progress. At Language Leap, we provide structured parent guidance and coaching to help families support their child’s communication development at home.
This includes guidance on fostering verbal skills as well as specialized support for nonspeaking children, including the implementation and use of high-tech AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) systems. Parents learn how to incorporate communication into daily routines, recognize and respond to their child’s attempts to communicate, and model language in consistent and meaningful ways during daily routines.
Our goal is to empower families with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to help their child communicate in ways that work best for them, fostering independence and meaningful engagement in everyday life.
Assessment
Screenings and assessments are conducted to evaluate a child's communication skills in different areas (i.e., pronouncing sounds, understanding language, early development, etc.). Through parent interviews and age-appropriate interactive activities, the Speech Therapist identifies where the child may need support and whether treatment is warranted.
Therapy
An individualized treatment plan is created based on your child's communication needs. Depending on the child's age, therapy is often play-based so that the child is engaged and motivated while specific skills are being targeted. In early intervention, therapy may include parent coaching to empower caregivers to facilitate growth. Frequency and duration of sessions varies.
